SJ Campus named Design of the Year at President*s Design Award 2025
SJ Campus has been honoured as Design of the Year at the prestigious President*s Design Award (P*DA) 2025. The P*DA is Singapore’s highest accolade for design, celebrating designs that uplift communities and respond creatively to evolving societal needs.
Designed by Safdie Architects in collaboration with SJ’s architects, SJ Campus embeds biophilia at its core, seamlessly integrating with the natural landscape to connect people, place and purpose. The architecture of SJ Campus respects its natural topography, elevating built forms to preserve biodiversity. Over half of the site’s original green space was preserved, while rooftop gardens, ETFE-sheltered atrium gardens, and landscaped trails weave nature seamlessly indoors and out. Underpinning the design is the belief that employees should have optimal access to light, air, and green space to reduce stress, encourage collaboration, and enhance creativity.
In commending the project, the P*DA jury said,
“SJ Campus reconceives the traditional corporate headquarters as a campus that integrates harmoniously with the public realm. The jury commends the team for creating a meaningful office campus typology that serves both its employees and the wider community.”
Seamless public integration is core at SJ Campus. A 24/7 sheltered public spine runs through the campus, connecting all towers and linking to the future Tawas MRT station. Cyclists are welcomed with end-of-trip facilities that support active commuting.
SJ’s multidisciplinary team undertook much of the work that brought the Campus to life, providing consultancy services from architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and project management, to workplace strategy, integrated facilities management, and security services.
More than a global headquarters, SJ Campus is a living showcase for smart and sustainable features. As the environmental sustainability consultant for SJ Campus, SJ spearheaded the advancement and use of new building systems and embraced new thinking about building operations to make the campus the largest Green Mark Super Low Energy office in Singapore. Smart systems – from underfloor air distribution to motion-sensitive lighting and solar panels – are deployed, tested, and refined in real time. The result is over 40% energy savings and a replicable model of regenerative design.
The P*DA award adds to the many accolades that SJ has received for SJ Campus. This includes ENR 2023 Global Best Projects Awards – Best Office, and WELL Core Certified™ Platinum, the highest level of WELL certification, signifying its strong commitment to human health and well-being.
Another project that received this year’s P*DA Design of the Year is Bird Paradise where SJ provided mechanical and electrical engineering expertise and Atelier Ten, an SJ company, led the sustainability studies. Nestled in Mandai, Bird Paradise is a sanctuary that celebrates biodiversity and thoughtful design, a reflection of how infrastructure can coexist beautifully with nature.
