Futureproof travel

As the first Changi terminal to incorporate a ground transport centre, T5 integrates rail, bus, taxi and other mobility modes into a seamless interchange. Designed with inclusion and everyday use in mind, the terminal optimises accessibility, walkability and intuitive circulation. Beyond aviation functionality, it also delivers civic and community benefits through shared public spaces and connections to the larger urban environment.
The terminal’s architecture features overlapping roof structures, known as “roof leaves,” which vary in height to create human-scale spaces, enhancing passenger comfort within the expansive terminal . This design approach fosters a cosy and inviting atmosphere, aligning with the project’s vision of reimagining the airport as a dynamic, human-centred extension of the city.

Terminal 5 is rated Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy, incorporating a wide array of regenerative systems and circular economy principles. Rooftop solar panels will generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 20,000 homes annually. The design also supports digital twin integration, allowing for predictive maintenance and real-time operational optimisation.

The outcome

As the centrepiece of the Changi East development, Terminal 5 sets a new benchmark for large-scale airport infrastructure. It exemplifies how thoughtful engineering, user-centric design and sustainability innovation can converge in a high-performance, futureproof facility. Once complete, it will not only boost capacity and connectivity but also elevate the airport experience for travellers, staff and surrounding communities – redefining what it means to build for both movement and meaning.
