A global sporting benchmark
The stadium’s bowl is restructured into three distinct seating tiers, each optimised for visibility, crowd flow and comfort. A newly designed upper tier offers improved sightlines and capacity, while the refurbished lower and middle levels enhance circulation and accessibility. The 90,000m² of new below-ground structure enables expanded hospitality, retail, logistics and operations. A seamless integration of digital systems, intuitive wayfinding and immersive fan zones ensures the venue meets the expectations of a global audience.
Working within a live, inner-city setting and under an ambitious programme, Robert Bird Group (RBG) was tasked with defining a robust Construction Methodology and Erection Sequence (CMES). This guided both demolition and build-up across multiple zones, helping mitigate disruption and streamline the sequencing of major structural elements. The approach also supported complex logistics planning – such as the deployment and verification of six Zoomlion heavy-lift tower cranes – and informed construction staging throughout Tier 3 and the external basement.
